Whale score

Kereon's 0–100 reading of whether insiders, institutions, funds and politicians have been net buyers of this company.

Formula

Whale score = Σ weight × group score ÷ Σ weights of the groups with data
Group score = 100 × bought $ ÷ (bought $ + sold $)

Inputs

  • Insiders (40%). The insider conviction score.
  • Institutions (25%). Net 13F changes, weighted by dollar value.
  • Hedge funds and funds (20%). The same, for the fund filers.
  • Politicians (15%). Disclosed purchases against sales.

How to read it

50 is balanced; above is net buying. It reports what disclosed holders did, not what they will do.

How to use it

One read of what every kind of disclosed holder has been doing.

Limitations

Rests on late disclosures; with no dollar values on record a group falls back to counting trades.

In Kereon

Whales. Over the last 90 days, four net-direction scores weighted insiders 40%, institutions 25%, hedge funds and funds 20%, politicians 15%. A group with no disclosures drops out and the rest are reweighted; below 35% of the intended weight no score is published.
