Volume profile

How much volume traded at each price over a stretch of the chart, drawn as a histogram on the price axis.

Inputs

  • Point of control (POC). The price row with the most volume.
  • Value area. The rows around the POC holding 68% of the volume — grown outward from the POC toward the busier neighbor.

How to read it

High-volume rows act as support and resistance where many traders hold positions; thin rows are prices the market passed through quickly and may again.

How to use it

Find the prices where most of the trading happened — likely support, resistance and fair value for that stretch.

Limitations

Built from OHLC bars, which do not say where inside their range the volume printed: each bar's volume is spread over the rows it covers by overlap, with its body weighted four times its wicks. The shape is partly that assumption.

In Kereon

Charts · Superchart. The visible range by default (or the current session, the previous one, or the last N bars), 60 rows. 68% rather than the usual 70% because one standard deviation is 68%.
