Smoothed moving average (RMA)

Wilder's slow running average — the one inside RSI, ATR and ADX.

It is an EMA with k = 1 ÷ N instead of 2 ÷ (N + 1), which is why an 'RSI 14' computed with a standard EMA is a different line.

Formula

RMA = RMAₚᵣₑᵥ + (Price − RMAₚᵣₑᵥ) ÷ N

How to use it

A slow, steady trend line — the same smoothing RSI and ATR use inside.
