Opportunity score
Kereon's 0–1 ranking of which stocks on the desk are set up for a short-term trade right now, with a letter grade.
A transparent weighted sum, not a model and not a prediction: each input is a condition an intraday trader scans for anyway — is it moving, is anyone trading it, which side of VWAP, is its sector with it, can it be traded in size. Nothing in it is backtested.
Formula
Score = Σ weight × input − Σ penalty weight × penalty, clipped to 0–1
Inputs
- RVOL (20%). Time-adjusted relative volume: 1× scores 0, 5× scores 1.
- Momentum (16%). Size of the last 15 minutes' move: 0.15% → 0, 2% → 1.
- VWAP (14%). Distance from VWAP, 0.05% → 0 up to 1.5% → 1 — only on the side of the day's move.
- Gap (12%). Size of the opening gap: 1% → 0, 8% → 1.
- Trend (10%). 0.6 when the one-minute EMA 9, EMA 20 and VWAP agree on a direction, plus 0.4 × how far into the top quarter of the day's range the price sits on an up day (the bottom quarter on a down day).
- Sector (10%). The stock's sector fund against SPY today: 0.1 → 0 up to 1.2 points → 1 — only when it points the stock's way.
- Liquidity (8%). Dollar volume today: $5M → 0, $400M → 1.
- ATR (6%). ATR as % of price: 1% → 0, 6% → 1.
- News (4%). 0.5 per story naming it today (up to 1), or 0.5 for an earnings, upgrade or downgrade catalyst.
- Penalties. Wide spread (18%): 12 → 60 basis points. Thin float (6%): free float below 20M shares. Possible halt (50%).
How to read it
Grade A at 0.70 and above, B from 0.55, C from 0.42, D below. A stock is listed only from 0.30. The side is long when the stock is up today and short when it is down.
How to use it
Read it as an ordered attention list — which names deserve a look first — and read the reasons printed beside the number. The warnings (wide spread, thin float, possible halt, light dollar volume) often decide whether a setup is tradeable at all.
Limitations
Built from today's intraday tape alone; it knows nothing about the business and claims no edge. A missing input scores zero rather than dropping out, so a thinly covered name ranks lower.
