Commodity channel index (CCI)

How far the price is from its average, in units of its typical deviation.

Formula

CCI = (TP − SMA(TP)) ÷ (0.015 × mean absolute deviation), TP = (High + Low + Close) ÷ 3

How to read it

Above +100 strong or overbought, below −100 weak or oversold; about 70–80% of readings fall between them.

How to use it

Spots new trends (a push above +100) and stretched moves to fade inside a range.

In Kereon

Charts · Superchart. Default 20; levels ±100. Uses the MEAN absolute deviation, not the standard deviation — the substitution that makes some CCIs disagree.

Also called: commodity channel, lambert.
